If you love horses, you can take a wild horse tour or even ride them if you want. There are several travel companies in the regions that offer wild horse tours. You can also enjoy fishing, hunting and more at the Currituck Banks reserves, which is a natural area. South Nags Head has a beach similar to that of its northern neighbor Nags Head, but it's a much quieter destination, with just a few rows of beach houses and scarce businesses, if there are any.
This area, which extends from US 158 to the heart of Bodie Island, is an excellent destination for visitors who want to enjoy a quieter beach, but who still want to be close to all the amenities of downtown Outer Banks. At the heart of this area is a fishing pier, the Outer Banks Fishing Pier, which has a sunny bar and grill, and the area is also home to moderate-sized vacation rentals, all just a few steps from the beach. Cape Lookout National Seashore, one of North Carolina's most remote shorelines, offers 95 kilometers of pristine, uninhabited beaches. At the north end is Portsmouth Village, a former whaling town that was converted into a historic site; at the southern end is the Cape Lookout lighthouse; in the Half there is only a beach.
Take a ferry to enjoy a beach day without neighbors or a weekend (or longer) camping, fishing and surfing. Bring your van (driving on the beach is allowed here). The beaches are wide and relatively secluded, and the city itself has many pristine vacation homes that are generally divided into elegant communities with amenities such as community pools, tennis courts, transportation or beach access, and even local spas. This small stretch of the Outer Banks doesn't get much attention, and most North Carolina visitors simply pass through the area on their way to or from the resort towns of Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, or make a quick stop for an up-close and personal view of the Bodie Island Lighthouse.

Image source Another beach on Hatteras Island is Canadian Hole, which is a paradise for surfers and beach lovers. There are only two ways to get here, you can drive over the Surf City drawbridge or you can use the high-rise bridge at North Topsail Beach. Officially North Carolina's state shell, the Scottish cap is surprisingly rare, but this egg-shaped, mottled brown and white conical shell is regularly washed on the beaches of Ocracoke Island.
It's just a matter of lounging on the right beach at the right time. North Carolina's 322 miles of coastline are comprised of more than 25 distinct beaches, each offering a unique experience, from the bustling Carolina Beach waterfront to the secluded vacation homes of Bald Head Island. Families flock to Carolina Beach, where a boardwalk, a wooden pier, and an abundance of carnival games and attractions provide the ambiance of an old-school beach getaway. Further south, beach lovers from Hatteras Island flock to Cape Point and South Beach in Buxton, especially in winter, when the beaches are deserted, to take advantage of the variety of different shells that the shady Diamond Shoals carry on a daily basis.
Between Atlantic Beach and Emerald Isle is Indian Beach, known as one of North Carolina's hidden coastal gems, an exclusive coastal city that is home to lush maritime forests, luxurious oceanfront homes, soft white dunes and captivating emerald waters. Keep in mind that, with more than 70 miles of shoreline stretching from the Bonner Bridge to Ocracoke Island, getting to the beach may require a short walk through greenery and overgrown beach trails. Swimwear stores: Visitors who don't necessarily need a new board or beachwear, but who want to look like fans of the Outer Banks beach, will also find a wide variety of boutiques and stores dedicated to swimwear and other clothing stores that are perfectly suited to the beach scene.
